The 1st London Lovecraft Playwriting Competition. The winning play The Collectors of Screams by James Goss will be brought to life on stage.
Are you a true fan of Lovecraft? Do you relish tasty horror or weird fiction? Perhaps you just love to see new writing on stage? Then this is the night for you!
On this night, we will present a staged reading of winning entrant's James Goss’ play, “The Collectors of Screams.” It extends Lovecraft’s mythos beautifully, looking at the humans working behind the scenes to support The Old Ones. James is no stranger to theater, having previously penned “The Gentlemen of Horror” (about the friendship between Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee) and “Dirk,” an award-winning stage adaptation of Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency. Goss says “I fell head over heels for Lovecraft with The Case of Charles Dexter Ward (so slyly funny it’s like Jane Austen’s turned her hand to horror), and when I discovered there was a Lovecraft writing competition I couldn’t pass it up. I’m so excited to do my bit for bringing about the end of the world.” Goss is well known for his work supporting the Dr Who-niverse which has included novelised three Doctor Who adventures by Douglas Adams (winning a Scribe Award in 2018).
This year, Orange Shade Productions is producing the first Writing Lovecraft competition. Orange Shade Productions is focused on developing and nurturing new work to performance level. They ran the outreach and selection process, and organized the staged reading that is being given to the winning entry.
The Writing Lovecraft competition was envisioned by the London Lovecraft Festival team as a way to encourage new work to be created that celebrates the life and legacy of H.P. Lovecraft, with a prize of a staged reading to provide a platform to share the work with others.
